Hastings Deering is committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive and trusted workplace, which is paramount for us to continue to attract and retain the best people.
Closing the gender pay gap is a collective responsibility, and Hastings Deering is a workplace where every employee, regardless of gender, can thrive and be rewarded equitably for their contributions.
We have actively been working on a range of activities to promote gender participation across our workforce. Over the past five years, we have seen our representation of women increase from 17% to 21%. These activities have included:
Providing more diverse career pathways and opportunities for women to enter graduate, apprenticeship, trade, technical and leadership roles.
Improving the gender composition across leadership and executive leadership roles.
Undertaking regular reviews of pay to ensure pay equity and consistency across our organisation.
The introduction of our award winning flexibility and inclusion program, Together as One, which promotes awareness and identifies opportunities to improve gender equity.
Implementing our 24/7 Respect program in 2023 to provide a safe, respectful and inclusive working environment for all employees.
Providing leadership skills development programmes in partnership with QUT to enhance our leadership capabilities and strengthen our leadership pool for greater gender diversity.

Commitment to Fair Pay:
At Hastings Deering, we regularly monitor our remuneration and pay structures to ensure all our people are paid equitably across comparable roles. Our people are paid for the role they perform, their skills, qualifications, experience, and performance, regardless of gender. Achieving pay parity is key to meeting our flexibility and inclusion commitments.
Actions:
We recognise there is an opportunity to continue to close the gender pay gap, and over the coming year we will focus on the following actions to promote and enhance gender participation:
Transparent Communication: We are committed to providing updates on our progress and initiatives underway to foster a more inclusive workplace.
Equal Opportunity: We are committed to providing equal opportunities for career progression, development and promotion based on merit and qualifications, free from gender bias.
Training and Education: We will provide training on unconscious bias to increase awareness and ensure objective decision-making fostering a culture of equity and inclusion.
Respectful Workplaces: We will enhance our 24/7 Respect programme and continue to deliver our bystander training to all employees to create safe, respectful and inclusive workplaces.
Long-Term Strategy:
Beyond these actions, we undertake ongoing reviews of our policies, continuous education initiatives, and programmes to foster a culture of diversity and inclusion at all levels of the organisation. We will also continue our work with industry groups to advocate, identify and implement collective industry actions.
Employee Involvement:
We value our employees’ input into this process. We encourage open conversations and welcome any suggestions or feedback on how to improve our practices and ensure equal opportunities for everyone.
