The Lions Pretty Inspirational Clinic and New AFLW Season

On the 18th August, Hastings Deering and the Brisbane Lions, together with the Pretty Foundation, brought together 35 girls at AFL Queensland’s head office in Brisbane for an afternoon of fun with the Lions Women’s team. The annual Pretty Like A Lion clinic empowers young girls aged 3-10 years nurture positive body image through living an active life. The Brisbane Lions AFLW players had plenty of one-on-one time with the girls, instilling confidence and taking them through lots of fun footy skills, as well as a series of informative sit-down sessions around being body positive.

Breeanna Brock, Head of Women’s Football for the Brisbane Lions, was also on hand at the session speaking about how AFL and sport can play a significant role in the physical and mental health development of young girls.

This clinic was also timed with the start of Season Seven of the new AFLW competition. 

The Lions Women kick off their campaign this Sunday, 27th August at 2.10pm at the Gabba against the Freemantle Dockers.

With four new teams entering the competition – Essendon, Hawthorn, Port Adelaide and Sydney – the AFLW season will consist of ten home-and-away rounds and a four-week finals series, with the Grand Final to be held on the last weekend of November.
