Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships On Offer

An apprenticeship with Hastings Deering is more than a training program. It’s an opportunity to learn from the best in the business in our state-of-the-art facilities. Working with world-class Caterpillar machinery, our apprentices learn about the repair, servicing and maintenance of a massive range of equipment, engines and power systems.

Auto Electrician

Diagnostic procedures, install, test and repair wiring on vehicle lighting systems and electrical security components, install ancillary electrical equipment, perform minor repairs to electrical circuits, inspect and service batteries, and more.

Electrical - High Voltage

Manufacture, fit, assemble, erect, operate, test, fault-find, alter, and repair electrical equipment. You will also develop skills in electrical wiring work including assembling, maintaining, terminating, and altering wiring.

Diesel Fitter

Service and repair of engine cylinder heads and other components of heavy vehicles. You will learn how to identify automotive faults and use a range of tools and equipment to complete basic inspection and service of automotive systems such as engines and cooling systems.

Mechanical Fitter

Engineering specialist responsible for putting together machine parts, installing, maintaining and repairing plants and equipment. Your work involves assembling parts made from metals or other materials to create production equipment and machinery.

Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants will be required to complete and be available for all stages of the recruitment process. This includes online application (including all documents), completing all online assessments and attending an engagement centre and interview.

Are apprenticeships only for school leavers?

No, we welcome applications from mature aged applicants. Our current apprentices are from a diverse range of ages and backgrounds.

Do I need to have completed year 12?

As a minimum we do require recent school leavers (within the last 5 years) to have completed year 12 and have achieved sound achievements in Maths and English. You will be asked to provide evidence of your school results when completing your application. Relevant work experience will be considered for those who have not completed year 12.

Can I apply if I live overseas?

You must be a permanent Australian resident or hold a relevant permanent visa at the time you apply. We do not provide visa sponsorship for apprentice positions.

Can I apply if I have already commenced an apprenticeship?

We do accept applications from candidates who have already commenced an apprenticeship in the same trade they are applying for.

Recruitment Process

Online Application

The online application allows you to tell us who you are, which role you are applying for, your skills and experience and why you want to complete an apprenticeship with Hastings Deering.

Required Documents

Your resume and cover letter. A copy of your recent school results if you have left school in the last 5 years. Proof of right to work in Australia.

Online assessments

Once your application has been reviewed, we will let you know if you have been successful to move onto the next stage which is a range of online assessments. These assessments can be completed anywhere you have online access. Online testing includes Mechanical, Numerical and Verbal reasoning.

Engagement Centre & Interview

If you are successful to move through to the next stage of the apprenticeship intake you will be invited to attend an engagement centre held in the Business Centre you have applied for. The engagement centre will provide an opportunity to participate in a range of interactive activities including workshop tours, group and individual activities.

In Person Interview

This will allow us to gain a further understanding of who you are, and an opportunity to tell us more about yourself and ask questions.

Pre-employment Medical and Reference Checks

This stage of the process will see successful candidates from the engagement centres and interviews progress to pre-employment medicals and reference checks.

Offer

Successful candidates will be formally offered an apprenticeship in writing.
