Queensland’s best operator crowned at FarmFest 2022

Aiden Lee from Queensland Electrical Solutions claimed the win at Hastings Deering’s first-ever Global Operator Challenge in Toowoomba last week.

Competing over 3 days at the FarmFest Field days, 27 operators took up the 3-event challenge to find the best operator in Queensland.

The Global Operator challenge tests an operator’s agility, speed, and accuracy in a series of skills-based tests on a custom designed course.

Aiden Lee will now move on to the regional finals in Chichibu, Japan in October 2022 to compete against the best operators in the APAC Region.

The challengers were required to showcase their skills in a Next Generation 320 Excavator, a 259D3 Compact Track Loader and a 301.7 Mini Excavator.

The Big Dig - Dig a trench to grade using 2D technology
The Mini Load & Go - Load, dump & return to hit payload/pass count
Mini Masters - "Play" the course & put the ball in the hole

With the chance to win a trip to Japan for the regional titles, from there winners will head to the Global Operator Challenge finals at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2023 in Las Vegas, where Caterpillar will crown one operator world champion.

More than 10,000 operators from 30 countries competed in the first-ever Global Operator Challenge in 2019-2020 — with Canadian Jaus Neigum taking home the title "best in the world" at the finals held at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2020.

With the chance to hold the title of “best in the world” and a trip for two to any Caterpillar facility worldwide on the line, the Hastings Deering challenge attracted competitors from across the state, some travelling from as far as Townsville.

With FarmFest being well known in the industry for its dedication to Queensland Farming, combining the interest with the Global Operator Challenge was a huge success for Hastings Deering.

With over 2,000 individual companies and organisations on a purpose-built site, the field days delivered an exceptional field day experience for Queensland’s farming professionals and families.
